Here’s a new song for you, just in time for warmer weather here in Washington D.C. It’s called “One More Summer Like That“: an acoustic tune with imagistic lyrics.
Lush green forest, cool blue lake water, and slow hikes up rugged mountainside — these are my memories of childhood summers in Maine, where I was born and raised.
There’s a carefree feeling surrounding these early memories that I miss. Don’t we all? Early in life we have fewer responsibilities, fewer projects weighing on our minds, and fewer things holding us back from running, biking, swimming, playing, jumping.
Is it possible to reach such a carefree state of mind as an adult in the modern world? Can I feel that excitement of wind rushing through my hair in the same way again? Can I feel as relaxed and happy with life as I did when I swam in the lake?
I want to have just one more summer like that.
